CBD Oil Dosage: How Much Should I Take?

When you first purchase CBD oil, one of the things you may be wondering is how much you should take for the correct dosage.

There is no exact answer to this question just yet, but we’ve taken a look at some recommendations and advice for working out your dosage.

Recommended dosage
As it is a fairly new product on the market, there is not yet an RDA (recommended daily allowance) for CBD oil. This is part of the reason why CBD oil and other CBD products are not yet being prescribed by medical professionals.

The World Health Organisation reports that a wide range of oral doses for CBD oil have been tested in clinical research, typically between 100-800mg/per day. However, as outlined in a piece by the Harvard Review, we should be wary of accepting a standard dosage at this stage since the active ingredients won’t be regulated in all CBD products.

One medical paper suggests that, although higher doses have been tolerated in clinical studies (e.g 300mg per day- 600mg per day), they found that lower doses (starting at 25mg per day) still had a noticeable impact on the participants. This is a promising sign because it means that more people will be able to give CBD a try without being put off by any expense.

For this reason, we would recommend starting with a low dosage and increasing it gradually, as you will be able to tell how it affects you personally. Don’t jump straight in with a really large dose as you might not need it!

Why it might vary
Another thing to bear in mind is that the correct dosage of CBD oil will vary between individuals and products.

The dosage of CBD oil that works best for you will depend on a variety of factors, including your weight, height and the speed of your metabolism. That is why we suggest starting at the lower end and increasing gradually if you don’t feel any effects.

Another thing that will affect the dosage will be the contents of your CBD products. Some might be stronger than others, so it’s important that you read the label carefully. CBD oil products can also contain a certain level of THC, the psychoactive component of cannabis, which is why we recommend being careful with your dosage.

When and how often to take CBD oil
Again, this will depend entirely on your personal preferences and why you are taking CBD. The important thing is to keep in mind the recommended daily dose so that you don’t take too much or too little.

Most people prefer to take CBD oil at least once a day to make sure that the effects are consistent. You can split the daily dosage and take some in the morning and some in the evening to spread it throughout the day. Alternatively, you can just stick to one time of day so that it becomes part of your morning or evening routine.

CBD oil dosage for different conditions
Current research suggests that, if you are taking CBD oil for medicinal purposes, a different amount might be required for each specific different condition. This is part of the reason why research into the effects of CBD on specific medical conditions must be done.

For example, for Huntington’s Disease, one medical review noted a study where 10 mg/kg of CBD oil, divided into twice-daily doses and ingested as capsules, had an impact on the motor movements of participants.

However, the medical papers looking at CBD doses for different conditions are careful to state that more research is necessary to fully understand this area.

The main thing to keep in mind when working out your CBD oil dosage is to start at the lower end and increase gradually. It’s all about trial and error and finding what works for you. As CBD increases in popularity, research into dosage amounts will continue, so keep an eye out for any developments in this area.
